Most of my colleagues always knew they wanted to be “in computers” as it was called a decade or two before the current century. I wasn’t one of them. I wanted to help people. After three years at university studying something completely inappropriate “for a girl” a friend submitted an application for me to become a trainee developer – I have not even seen a computer at that stage. I had no idea what computer programming entails! Today it is my passion to make technology work for people.
Women are still scarce at the levels I operate – world wide! I am quite used to being the only woman in a training session or attending a huge conference where less than 10% of the attendees are female.
I work for Microsoft in a technical role and I enjoy every moment of working for this great employer. I get to travel overseas and play with new technology as part of my everyday life.
